Atalanta are reportedly in talks with Manchester United to sign Mason Greenwood on loan.
The Red Devils’ forward was included in a list of players being retained by Erik ten Hag’s side as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
But he was not present among those returning for pre-season training at Carrington this week.
Mail Sport understands his inclusion reflects the fact that he is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025.
Greenwood is currently the subject of an internal investigation by the club, after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape and assault against him in February.

Greenwood has been retained in Man Untied’s squad for the upcoming season but has not returned to pre-season training with the squad, he was pictured training on his own recently
While a decision over his future is still to be made, according to Manchester Evening News, director of football, John Murtough has ‘held extensive talks with Atalanta officials’ and has also ‘discussed a possible deal to sign striker Rasmus Hojlund’ too.
Man Untied are thinking about sending the 21-year-old out on loan for the entirety of next season.
The striker has two years remaining on his £75,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford and is unlikely to be sent out on loan to another Premier League club, with a temporary move abroad the most likely option.

He has been linked with a move to the Turkish Super Lig, Serie A and the Saudi Pro league, but it appears he could move to Atalanta, with Ten Hag reluctant to sell him.
Man United are looking to sign a new forward and yesterday made Hojlund their prime target to replace Wout Weghorst, who left the club earlier this summer.
The Red Devils are also reportedly in talks to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt and are in the market for a new goalkeeper too following David De Gea’s departure last week.
The club are looking to sign Andre Onana and have made a £43million bid for the Inter Milan shot-stopper this week.
