‘Master your role or get the f*** out’: Draymond Green’s speech to aspiring NBA players goes viral

Draymond Green has offered stern yet sage advice to those who wish to one day be his competitors. 

A video taken during a workout with Toronto Raptors’ player development coach, Rico Hines, shows Green advising future NBA hopefuls on the stark realities of the NBA.  

‘At the end of the day, mo*********** got to play a role in the NBA,’ Green said. 

‘It’s two mo*********** on a team that can do what the f*** they want to do and 13 other m***********s that got to play a role.’

Green has become synonymous across the globe for his dogged mentality and willingness to do whatever it takes for his team. 

While the former Michigan State man may be polarizing to some there is no doubt as to his work ethic as evidenced in various defensive accolades, including Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, alongside four NBA championships.

Green is the embodiment of effort and intensity on the court for the Golden State Warriors

‘Everybody else got a role,’ Green continued. ‘So you’re going to either master your role or you’re going to get the f*** out. And it’s just that simple.’

After witnessing some of the aspirants participate in a two-minute sprint drill, Green became impassioned by their perceived lack of effort, with some seemingly slowing down before the drill’s cessation. 

‘Don’t tell me “oh it’s just the end”,’ Green said. ‘Because that’s the end of f****** playoffs. 

Green was the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 & was second-team All-Defense in ’22

‘Ask them how hard it is to win championships. Why do mo*********** lose? Because they can’t get to the end. 

‘So I watched y’all do this two-minute sprint, and maybe 10 people took it serious. There’s 40 mo*********** in here. 

‘Maybe 10 people took it serious. Why? Because you think you’re done? Well, you won’t make it to the end.’

Patrick Beverley warned future NBA hopefuls that they must play with fundamental effort

Green isn’t the only player to have given a stirring speech at one of Hines’ workouts, with a video surfacing earlier this week of Patrick Beverley’s inspiring similarly ambitious players.

‘Everybody here ain’t Paul George, everybody here ain’t (Pascal) Siakam. The teams y’all going to go to you ain’t going to be able to have the ball like that. 

‘So, y’all gotta do little stuff. How good do you want to be? 

‘Find your role, find your niche and your role. Keep building off of it but find it though first.’
