MasterChef recap: Contestant labelled ‘a threat’ after she serves up amazing dish – as judge Jamie Oliver gives her an incredible compliment

On Monday’s episode of MasterChef Australia, a new contestant wowed the judges and proved that she’s a major contender.

Nat Thaipun, 28, a barista from Victoria with Thai heritage, blew everyone away with her Thai inspired kangaroo larb.

Andy Allen is joined by French celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, Melbourne-based food critic Sofia Levin, and MasterChef season one runner-up Poh Ling Yeow on the 16th season – and all of them were thrilled by Nat’s efforts.

As did guest judge Jamie Oliver, who declared: ‘I think you’ve done a fantastic job. The flavour profiling is just perfumed.

‘It’s delicate, it’s light, it’s unexpected. I never, ever thought I would have kangaroo as delicious as that.’

The others agreed, with endless compliments coming thick and fast from the judging panel.

‘It is such a brilliant dish. All those Asian aromatics, you’ve used your advantage and created this incredibly delicate balance’ said Poh.

‘You’re already thinking like a chef. I’d be scared of you.’

Jean-Christophe chimed in: ‘Honestly, I don’t think you realise how good you are.

‘It’s just…this is definitely the most crispy, the most unique. It’s just perfect. You are a threat.’

It was Sofia’s turn next as she told the cook: This is the stuff that excites us. You excite us, Nat.

‘That is a restaurant dish, and it’s day one, and it combines so many great things about Australia, and you’re one of them. So, well done.’
