MasterChef viewers rip into guest chef Monty Koludrovic for being too tough on Sashi Cheliah

MasterChef viewers have unleashed their fury at Bondi Icebergs head chef Monty Koludrovic for being ‘too tough’ on a contestant.

On Wednesday’s episode, the top four cooks took part in the service challenge at the iconic swimming club.

Contestant Sashi Cheliah planned to deliver a pumpkin, pine nut raviolo with mushroom and red wine sauce, but buckled under pressure when chef Monty constantly hovered over him.

At one point the chef even told the amateur cook to apologise to the wait staff for being late with an order: ‘Have you got anything to say to the waiters?’

Sashi answered: ‘Ah, I haven’t poured the mushroom broth yet, so…’

The chef replied: ‘What about, ‘Sorry, I’m so late.’

Sashi’s supporters took to social media to take a swipe at the chef, including one who wrote: ‘to see him being treated like that makes me really angry. He made the hardest dish with the most elements. I wanna deck Monty.’

Another said: ‘Sashi, as a Prison Officer you would have seen it all. Yet, you would know that was no way to teach or encourage! You handled that session amazingly #MasterChefAU disgrace to you for tonight’s editing!’

A few even vowed to boycott the Bondi restaurant after watching Monty’s treatment towards the Sashi, one wrote: ‘If I am ever in Bondi, I definitely know where I won’t be going to dine.’

‘@bondiicebergs Hey! I will not eat at your establishment as the way your chef spoke to a particular #masterchefAU contestant was so inappropriate,’ someone said.

As another wrote: ‘As a Bondi local, I will never EVER walk into Monty x @Icebergskitchen again! The way to succeed in business, a kitchen or life is to lead your people, not beat them. @masterchefau #boycottbullies #MasterChefAU.’

However a couple of Twitter users defended the head chef, one shared: ‘It’s his place and he isn’t yelling. It’s being direct and honest.’

They continued: ‘If you don’t like it then try harder or do whatever it takes to make him shut up.’

Someone else added: ‘To be fair, Monty tried to give Sashi advice at the start when he heard that making pasta was not in his strong suit. Sashi ignored his advice. Many people would be put off by that.’
