MasterChef viewers slam ‘passive aggressive’ John Torode and Gregg Wallace

Masterchef viewers slammed ‘passive aggressive’ John Torode and Gregg Wallace for their attitude towards the contestants last night.

The BBC cooks were split into two teams and were tasked to prepare a main course and dessert for 120 emergency service responders at a firefighter college.

The eight hopefuls, who were split into a blue team, who cooked a roasted cod in a Thai coconut broth, and the red team, who created a venison wellington.

The teams had a number of stressful moments throughout the episode but worked together to complete the task and serve up the dishes.

But many of those watching said they were unimpressed by comments from the judges, with one writing: ‘Oh shut up you eggg head with your faux ‘ooh this is getting tense’ bulls***.’

Meanwhile another commented: ‘ Passive aggressive Gregg and John on these mass catering tasks is pretty tiresome.’

A third added: ‘Not enjoying Gregg aggressively shouting at stressed contestants ‘how are you feeling right now?’ There in a f***ing timed competition, you muppet.’

During the show, the judges continued to ask the contestants how they were doing – despite everyone confessing they were feeling the pressure in the kitchen.

Elsewhere in the show, contestant Chariya pulled her coffee cake out of the oven for her layered dessert and realised she had forgot to add the eggs into the batter.

She joked: ‘It’s tasty, I’ve got all the eggs here. I don’t have time to bake another cake. We’re going to have biscuit instead’.

The rest on the blue team gushed that she is great with desserts and that they trust her to come up with something.

Thinking quick on her feet she decided to whip up mascarpone, gonache and Italian meringue to go on top of the biscuits as well as adding walnuts across the top.

One firefighter gushed over the creation: ‘It was absolutely gorgeous, can’t really fault it 10 out of 10, are there any seconds?’

The over all winners of the semi final was the blue team who went straight through into next weeks round.

The red team were left to return to the MasterChef kitchen and battle it out creating dishes with only tinned goods.

Last night’s episode comes after MasterChef hosts Gregg and John spoke out on the true nature of their friendship, admitting they’re not best pals in real life.

The television presenters, who host MasterChef together, keep viewers of the BBC One show entertained with their amusing banter and appear to have a close bond on screen.

However, they insist they do not regularly mix outside of work, something they claim leaves their fans astounded.

Former greengrocer Gregg, 58, told the Radio Times: ‘As far as I know, nobody’s written a bestselling pamphlet on how to be a successful TV couple, which is what we are.

‘People are amazed we can be close and not be round at each other’s houses. We’ve found a way for it to work for us.’

While they may not be in each other’s pockets away from the show, they insist they do have fun while filming.

On who’s funnier, John, 57, said: ‘I mean, his jokes are s**t, but every now and then he does come out with something very funny. It makes work joyous.’

Gregg added: ‘I just constantly crack jokes. When John does it can be hilarious, because he’s normally in serious chef and judge mode. But I’m funnier.’

Meanwhile, one television presenting duo who do get on well off camera is John and his wife Lisa.

It was recently announced the couple are getting an eighth season of their cookery show – which will tackle whipping up food amid the cost of living crisis.

John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen will be on ITV1 for 10 new episodes starting in this month.
