MasterChef Australia judge Poh Ling Yeow has shed light on the ‘tough love’ she doles out to contestants on the show.

The celebrity chef, 50, appeared on The Project on Tuesday with fellow judge Andy Allen ahead of the grand finale.

Panellist Kate Langbroek asked the judges what they get up to during the longer challenges.

Poh said they are often checking in on contestants, which often looks like the judge’s are ‘antagonising them’.

‘We’re doing it to try and get them to realise they’re doing something very wrong,’ Poh claimed.

‘The audience gets very protective [over the contestants] and don’t realise that we have to work within parameters when we’re trying to give them advice,’ she added.

It comes as the two grand finalists in 2024’s MasterChef Australia were revealed on Monday.

In the nail-biting semi-final, contestants Savindri Perera, Josh Perry (aka Pezza), and Nat Thaipun were tasked with designing their own menu and making a three-course meal for 20 diners as well as the judges.

The challenge was demanding for all three chefs, who were on their feet for a staggering five hours.

In the challenge, Savindri took the opportunity to try to showcase all that Sri Lankan cooking could be, however, she was plagued by time management issues.

In the end, Savindri failed to impress the judges as much as humble Tasmania butcher Pezza and risk-taking Nat, who triumphed as the two grand finalists.

After the pair were triumphant, the results were shared on MasterChef Australia’s  Instagram page.

The photo showed the moment Nat and Pezza had found out they had made it through to the grand final.

‘This is the cutest pic ever,’ judge Poh Ling Yeow posted in the comments.

Meanwhile, fans flooded the post with congratulations and well-wishes for the pair, with many of the show’s viewers supporting both of them.

‘Our 2 favourites in the Grand Final!!! Woohoo,’ wrote one excited fan.

‘Yay! Now it’s tough! I love both of them equally,’ wrote another.

‘My two favourites. They are both winners,’ someone else wrote.

‘What a final two. Will be happy either way,’ said one more.
