Matt Damon fuels speculation he’s bought a home in Byron Bay

Matt Damon has fuelled speculation he’s purchased a home in Byron Bay, New South Wales.

During a trip to Queensland’s Stradbroke Island on Thursday, the 47-year-old reportedly refused to pose for a photo in a Queensland Maroons State Of Origin jersey.

According to News Corp, the Hollywood A-lister pridefully explained: ‘I’m from New South Wales really.’

‘I’m from NSW really’: Matt Damon fuels speculation he’s bought a home in Byron Bay as the actor REFUSES to pose for a photo in a Queensland Maroons State Of Origin jersey

For the unacquainted: State Of Origin is an annual best-of-three Rugby League series pitting players born in New South Wales against players born in Queensland.

Matt has spent enough time in Australia in recent years to know that the only reason to support the New South Wales ‘Blues’ is because you live there.

Certainly no unbiased observer would be able to find a logical reason to pledge allegiance to a NSW team who’s managed just one series win in the last twelve years.

The Bourne Ultimatum star has spent most of 2018 hanging out with his best mate Chris Hemsworth in Byron Bay – a town that sits just within the NSW side of the border.

At the start of the year Matt reportedly rented out the $4 million ($3.07m USD) property directly next door to the Thor star’s current rental property to use as his home base during his visit.

His patriotic defence of a team known for lacking the ability to defend themselves is perhaps the most compelling evidence of Matt’s rumoured desire to move Down Under yet.

Back in April, Page Six claimed Matt was looking to buy the property next door to Chris in Byron Bay, allegedly due to his dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump.

‘Matt’s telling friends and colleagues in Hollywood that he’s moving the family to Australia for a year,’ a source told the publication.

‘He’s saying the move will not impact his work – as he will travel to wherever his projects are shooting. He’s also telling friends he wants to have a safe place to raise his kids.’

Last month, his representatives flat-out denied the reports: ‘Matt has visited Australia several times recently, but he has not bought a house there nor is he moving there.’

However, many observers feel the actor’s desire for privacy and seclusion means he’ll be keeping any plans to move or buy property off the record.

In 2014, Chris, 34, his stunning wife Elsa, 41, and their children India-Rose, 5, Tristan, and Sasha, 4, became one of the first working Hollywood families to permanently relocate to Australia.
