Matt Lucas is set to show off his baking skills Celebrity Bake Off

Matt Lucas has been forced to swap his Bake Off roles from presenter to star of the upcoming Stand Up To Cancer show.

The host, 47, who became the new co-host of the show in 2020, has been confirmed on the celebrity edition roster, revealing he was ‘forced’ to swap sides in the tent at the last minute when one of the celeb bakers became unavailable.

The comedian will star alongside Mo Farah, 38, Ellie Goulding, 35, and Strictly’s Motsi Mabuse, 40, as they hope to impress the judges with their skills.

Matt’s big moment comes in an episode when he fills in for a missing contestant and discovers just what it is like to face the judges himself.

Matt explained: ‘I was forced to bake by my bosses at the last minute when one of the bakers became unavailable.

‘I can’t tell you how happy I was that my humiliation was caught on camera.’

The list of celebrity participants also includes comedian and creator of Taskmaster Alex Horne, TV presenter Emma Willis, singer-songwriter Example and choirmaster Gareth Malone.  

Coming soon: Nineteen celebrities will be taking part in the fifth series, set to ait in late spring 

Stars: Ellie Goulding, 35, and Strictly’s Motsi Mabuse, 40, will also be hoping to impress the judges with their skills

Competition: Sir Mo Farah, 38, will be fighting to be crowned star baker alongside the other contestants

Cast: TV presenters Laura Whitmore, 36, and Emma Willis, 45, will be battling it out 

Radio DJ Annie Mac, actor and author Ben Miller, The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison, and TV and radio presenter Clara Amfo are also amongst the ranks trying to impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. 

Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly, Laura Whitmore, Ed Gamble, comedian Mawaan Rizwan, TV star Ruby Wax, TV presenter Sophie Morgan, Friday Night Dinner’s Tracy-Ann Oberman and musician Yung Filly complete the line-up.

In each episode celebrities will battle it out over three rounds – the Signature, the Technical and the Showstopper challenge – in a bid to be crowned Star Baker. 

Who will win? Musician Example, 39, will be trading rapping for baking 

Contestants: BBC Radio One show hosts Clara Amfo, 37,  and Annie Mac, 43, will be taking part

Career change? Ben Miller, 55, of Channel 4 sketch show Armstrong and Miller will be showing off his talents

Bakers: Former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly, 42, and presenter of the BAFTA-award-winning TV series The Choir, Gareth Malone, 46

She’s ready! Friday Night Dinner Star Tracy-Ann Oberman, 55, dons her apron 

The programme, which also sees Noel Fielding hosting, is set to air later this spring.

Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall and comedian Reece Shearsmith were among the stars who were crowned Star Baker last year in the charity series. 

Across five episodes, the celebrities will be doing their bit in aid of Stand Up To Cancer, a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, launched in 2012. 

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer airs later this spring.
