Leigh earned their first win of the Super League season with an astonishing 54-4 demolition of a woeful Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.

Challenge Cup holders Leigh had lost their first three games but outscored their opponents by nine tries to one to leave Hull having lost four in five.

Matt Moylan starred for the visitors with a try, eight conversions and a penalty as Tony Smith’s men were humiliated by a side without four of their best players.

Leigh dominated from the off with tries from Umyla Hanley and Josh Charnley before Tex Hoy reduced the arrears. That was as good as it got for Hull as further tries from Ricky Leutele, Robbie Mulhern and Ben McNamara saw Leigh well on top at the break.

Ollie Holmes added two tries early in the second half as boos rang around the ground from home fans. And it got worse for those supporters as Moylan dived in before Leutele’s second took the visitors past 50 points.

Hull coach Smith pulled no punches, saying: ‘Sometimes you need a fair kick up the backside to make the changes that are needed. We got our fair share of kicks up the backside today, that’s for sure.

‘But it makes you more determined to go away and work harder and make sure you get on top of those areas that are really hurting you.

‘I hate days like this, but it happens, and if you’re around long enough, then it’ll happen again.’

Hull KR ended their two-game losing Super League run with a 24-12 victory over a poor Huddersfield.

Joe Burgess and Jez Litten scored tries, with Peta Hiku scoring two. Ryan Hall added a fifth, before Kevin Naiqama and Adam Swift replied.

Despite the score, Castleford produced a brave performance in Perpignan in their 40-14 defeat by Catalans Dragons.
