Matt Shirvington reveals what he REALLY thinks of ‘fast-paced’ Sunrise

Matt Shirvington has opened up about his experience co-hosting Sunrise, a year after stepping into the role.

The 44-year-old took over as co-anchor alongside Natalie Barr on June 13, and his first day saw huge ratings from viewers.

Reflecting on his journey, Shirvington shared his gratitude for the opportunity.

‘It’s just been amazing… there has not been a day where I’ve been driving into work in the middle of the night with no one else around, even in the winter time when it’s pouring rain, where I’ve thought, “Do I have to do this again?”‘ he told The Sunday Telegraph.

‘When you’re on air for almost four hours every day, five days a week – and it’s so jam-packed – it’s the most fast-paced show,’ he explained.

‘You don’t get any downtime; it’s been a wild ride, the last 12 months,’ he continued.

The former athlete also expressed his pride in the show’s continued success, maintaining its position as Australia’s leading breakfast program.

‘I feel really proud of the way that things have gone this year… we’re still the No.1 brekkie show. That in itself, after 12 months, is huge,’ he told the publication.

‘Being able to replace someone but then also still carrying on the success of the show, that’s massive, and really heartening,’ he added.

David Koch, 68, the longest-serving breakfast TV anchor in Australian history, stunned viewers and the industry in May of 2023 by announcing he was leaving the program after 21 years.

Shirvington was announced as Koch’s replacement in June, after being with Seven since 2020.

The official announcement was made during the breakfast show, four days before Koch filmed his final show.

Matt shares daughters Sienna, 16, Winnie, 14, and son Lincoln with his wife Jessica, who he married after meeting when they were just 17 years old.
