Matthew and Ebony Sonnier arrested on murder charges

A brother and sister face murder charges in the deaths of three people whose bodies were found in two separate locations in central Louisiana.

Siblings Matthew Sonnier, 29, and Ebony Nicole Sonnier, 31, were arrested on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of two Alexandria men whose burned bodies were found in Rapides Parish.

The Sonniers also face first-degree murder charges in the fatal stabbing of 42-year-old whose body was found that same day.

Early on the morning of October 18, police found Latish White, 42, stabbed to death in a road. They speculated that Matthew Sonnier, described as a ‘known acquaintance’ of White, had stabbed her and then thrown her out of the car.

Later that day they found the bodies of Kendrick Horn, 33, and Jeremy Norris, 28, after extinguishing a fire in a ditch.

Rapides Parish Sheriff William Earl Hilton wouldn’t immediately explain why investigators believe the cases are connected, but he said the murder charges stem from a ‘very intense investigation’ that led to hundreds of pieces of evidence collected at eight different locations.

‘There are so many different tentacles to this thing that went so many different places,’ he said. ‘No one can remember this many different crime scenes that we had to process.’

Both siblings have been in police custody since last week. Matthew Sonnier initially was arrested on a second-degree murder charge in White’s death.

His sister was arrested on drug charges, according to Pineville Deputy Police Chief Darrell Basco.

White’s daughter Bree Sherwood has posted about the incident on Facebook several times. In one post linking to local coverage of the case, she writes: ‘Matthew sonnier whyyyy why did you take my mama away from me & my babies .not only did you leave us in pain ,but you left us with a broken heart.’
