Maury Povich reveals plans to launch AT-HOME paternity-testing business

The results are in! Maury Povich, 84, is set to launch AT-HOME paternity tests – after years of sharing dramatic DNA reveals on air – and they’ll be named after one of his famous catchphrases

  • Povich, 84, completed his eponymous talk show’s 31-year run in 2022
  • The daytime talk show became famous for settling paternity disputes on-air
  • He plans to partner with a DNA-testing firm that he used on his show

Longtime TV host Maury Povich is planning to launch an at-home paternity testing company.

Povich, 84, intends to name his new venture, The Results Are In, after one of the catchphrases made popular by his daytime talk show, Maury, TMZ reported.

The now-retired TV host employed the phrase over the more than three decades his show aired.

It was famous for featuring guests embroiled in paternity disputes, and Povich would use the signature words to preface the big reveal of whether a male guest was in fact the father of a mother’s child.

In a statement to TMZ, Povich addressed the need for the business.

‘I’ve seen firsthand how DNA testing can change lives and bring families together,’ he said.

‘With The Results Are In, we’re making it easier and more affordable than ever before for people to get the answers they need.’

The Maury Povich Show, later shortened to Maury, debuted in 1991 as a daytime talk show that followed various domestic dramas as told through real people.

Besides paternity disputes, the issues the series touched on spanned teen pregnancy, ‘secret crushes,’ general cheating, ‘controlling/abusive men’ and beyond, according to a now-archived page of the old Maury show’s website.

Povich’s start-up reportedly will work in close partnership with DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) – one of the world’s largest private DNA-testing firms.

DDC already independently offers confidential paternity testing, though putting Povich’s name on one of its paternity-testing services is certain to draw in a much wider customer base.

On its website, the company boasts having been the talk show’s go-to DNA testing lab for settling paternity disputes over much of the series’ 31-year run.

A 2018 statement declared that Maury and DDC ‘have been partners in paternity testing’ since 1998 – adding that ‘together we’ve provided accurate DNA answer[s] to hundreds and hundreds of people from all walks of life.’

The series, which ended last year, boasts having been longest-airing daytime talk show to feature the same host throughout its run in broadcast TV history.

Of finally stepping down in 2022, Povich said in a statement through parent company NBC: ‘Six years ago when I was ready to retire, [my] NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show.

‘Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members… I agreed to one more deal.

‘I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, “Enough, already!”‘
