The programme, which will air later this year, involves Mr Fabricant taking part in a dinner date with someone he has never met, surrounded by cameras.

The Lichfield MP is giving the £25,000 fee to Cancer Research UK and is not making any money from the show.

He told MailOnline: ‘Having never been on a blind date before it was all very nerve racking.’

The revelation in Parliament came after Mr Fabricant asked the Premier about the West Midlands’ bid for the Commonwealth Games.

Mrs May replied: ‘I have noticed that he is shortly to appear on a Channel 4 programme called Celebrity First Dates.

‘What I’m not sure about is whether he is the celebrity or the first date.’
