Mayweather defeated by Peter Dutton, can’t visit Australia

Floyd Mayweather may be undefeated in the ring but the champion boxer is set for successive losses against an unlikely opponent – Immigration Minister Peter Dutton.

Mayweather was KO’d by then-Assistant Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash during first attempt at gaining entry to Australia.

Ms Cash wrote a five-page letter concerning Mayweather’s history of violence against women, including his long-term partners and girlfriends.

The boxer failed to meet the demands listed in the letter which required him to prove he has changed, and had to cancel his speaking tour, The Herald Sun reported.

Following his lucrative win over crossover UFC superstar Conor McGregor, Mayweather is reportedly keen on a trip to Australia.

Mr Dutton seems unlikely to relax his guard, however, with his office stating they are not considering changing their stance.

‘The then Minister made a decision in 2015 not to grant Mr Mayweather a visa and the Government is not aware of any information that would change that outcome,’ the statement read.

Celebrity agent Max Markson has called his client ‘a reformed character who deserves another chance’, and says the demands in the 2015 letter were excessive.

Ms Cash found Mayweather’s ‘bad conduct outweighs his good conduct’, and doubted his claims of having changed his ways.

‘The Assistant Minister finds Mr Mayweather’s comments [in an interview with CNN] do not illustrate he has taken responsibility for his previous offences and indicates a lack of awareness into the seriousness of Domestic Violence as a crime,’ she wrote.
