A parent told 9News that the driver was ‘completely irresponsible’ and that the incident ‘should never have happened’.

One witness guessed the SUV had reached up to 60km/h along the beach at one point.

The car eventually became bogged in the sand and its occupants tried unsuccessfully to dig the vehicle out.

A girl who spoke to reporters on the beach claimed the driver ‘flipped people off’ when they confronted her over her behaviour.

Photos taken by onlookers showed police turning up and approaching the car after dusk.
