McCarthy says broken leg operation ‘went well’

James McCarthy has shared an update on his condition after his double leg fracture while playing for Everton against West Brom on Saturday.

The 27-year-old uploaded a picture to Instagram on Wednesday, two days after his operation, of him in hospital.

‘Just a quick message to say that my operation went well, thanks to all the staff involved!’ McCarthy said. ‘And a big thanks to all my family, friends and Olivia.

McCarthy sustained the injury after an innocuous challenge with West Brom striker Salomon Rondon during the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Rondon was in tears after accidentally kicking McCarthy’s leg and had to be consoled by manager Alan Pardew.

He has contracted McCarthy’s family and said he plans to visit the midfielder once he is ready for visitors.

The West Brom forward also voiced his well wishes for McCarthy.

‘I am absolutely devastated after such an unfortunate incident,’ said Rondon. ‘I feel really sorry for James.

‘Rivalries are forgotten about when a colleague suffers such an unlucky injury.

‘Even if the move had resulted in a goal, I would have preferred not to score if it meant an opponent avoided suffering such a terrible injury.

‘I wish James a speedy recovery and hope to see him back playing again soon.’
