  • Apparently, contacting cops helped to stop the bagpipes, said neighbor Arnold Phillips. ‘The first couple of days they had it on 24/7,’ he said
  • ‘If we wouldn’t have said anything or reported it to the police, they would have had that thing going on still,’ he adds.

A 24-hour McDonald’s in California blasted bagpipe music in an unsuccessful attempt to ward away homeless people from outside its restaurant – and ended up infuriating neighbors instead.

The McDonald’s in midtown Sacramento played the Scottish music 24/7, but the homeless people were visibly still sticking around.

Finally, the music stopped when neighbors complained.

‘If we wouldn’t have said anything or reported it to the police, they would have had that thing going on still,’ said Arnold Phillips, who lives across the street, reports KOVR.

The Sacramento Police Department confirmed to DailyMail.com that residents had complained on Friday about the bagpipes, and that cops alerted the restaurant.

‘We have not been contacted by residents in the that area regarding the sounds of bagpipes since,’ a spokesman told DailyMail.com.

There’s no word on whether the music stopped permanently.

McDonald’s did not immediately respond when DailyMail.com reached out.

The tactic of using weaponized sound was similarly employed by other establishments, including a 7 Eleven in West Hollywood that broadcast classical music in the hopes of shooing away homeless people, reports KOVR.

Meanwhile, Phillips said the bagpipes had penetrated his home.

‘We can hear it [when] I’m trying to watch TV or whatever and it’s going through that,’ Phillips told KOVR.

Nate Dewitt, his downstairs neighbor, also had similar gripes.

‘You know, I turn off the leaf blower and I could still hear the bagpipes coming and it’s just constant,’ Dewitt said.
