McDonald’s employees reveal the secrets of working there

McDonald’s employees have revealed some of the secrets of working for the biggest fast food chain in the world – including some very useful menu hacks.

Staff members working in UK branches took to question-and-answer website Quora to dish out insider knowledge, including how to ask for bacon in your burger to be extra crispy.

They revealed what it’s really like to work for the fast food giant, including a claim that the uniforms don’t have pockets ‘to stop people pinching things’, and that they will be told off if you take too long to order at the drive-thru.

One staff worker said that it’s much better to get a McFlurry if you fancy a frozen treat as cones are fiddly to make and can’t take as much ice cream. They added that McFlurrys are almost always overfilled, too.

They also revealed that you’ll get the freshest food if you pop into a restaurant at night, as they don’t keep as much pre-cooked food because this is when the restaurant is cleaned.

Another staff member added that employees aren’t allowed to eat while working and could get fired if they do – but they are allowed a free meal before or after their shift.

A McDonald’s spokesman added: ‘Some of the claims made in the thread relate to our restaurants before our recent refurbishment programme, for example our refurbished restaurants do not have ‘food chutes’ and all items are freshly prepared and made to order for individual customers.

‘Meal allocations provided to our people while they are working vary depending on the restaurant.’

Quora user Jake Williams said his flatmate, who used to work in McDonald's, claims that customers should order a McFlurry as it will contain more ice cream and will create less work for the employee. They also dished out other insider knowledge, including the fact that all the meat is British apart from the chicken in the Chicken Selects, they claimed

Quora user and current McDonald's UK crew member, Joel Devereux, says that the uniform at his branch comes without pockets, which he claimed was to 'stop people pinching things'. He also revealed the job isn't too target-driven unlike other retails jobs, and that you should visit the restaurant at night if you want the freshest food as this is when the branch is cleaned, so there is not much pre-cooked food on the shelves
