  • Criminals gangs have devised new tactic of stabbing their victims in the rectum
  • Intention is to force them into using a colostomy bag as form of humiliation
  • Gang members also using new weapons like bike spokes, kebab skewers, and screwdrivers, so they will not get caught carrying a blade

Criminal knife gangs have taken up a horrific new tactic to leave their their victims scarred for life – by stabbing them in the backside.

A leading surgeon has warned that gang members are increasingly targeting others by stabbing them in the rectum, so that they will have to use a colostomy bag.

The humiliating tactic, known among gang members as ‘bagging’, is one of the increased risks to young people out on the streets.

Stephen Metcalf, a consultant in emergency medicine at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, added that survivors had to be protected from their attackers while being treated in hospital.

Gang members are also using a range of new weapons, including the spokes of bicycle wheels, kebab skewers, and screwdrivers, so that they will not get caught by the police carrying a blade.

‘Someone tried to get into the operating theatre to finish someone off,’ Mr Metcalf told GQ magazine.

At other times staff have to be alert to people who walk on to wards and ask for particular individuals to ensure that it is not someone wanting to continue an attack.

Another sadistic move by criminals has been to stab victims under the armpit because ‘it is harder for surgeons to get to’, causing more harm and being more likely to lead to a disability.

Official figures show that knife crime, including attacks with other sharp instruments, rose by 7 per cent to 44,000 in the year to June, the highest figure for eight years.

However, the number of knife-crime homicides fell by 14 per cent, driven by a fall in London. Overall knife crime in the capital was broadly stable, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Over the weekend a 17-year-old boy, named locally as Tyrone Hayman, was stabbed to death in Bristol and a man in his forties died from stab wounds in Dagenham, east London.

A 14-year-old schoolboy has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the incident in Bristol.

A man aged 59 has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the attack in east London. A woman was also injured at the property where it happened.
