Meet the glamorous miner, 27, who uses her time off to create makeup looks to feel ‘girly’ again

A miner who works in a remote mine in the Australian Outback has revealed how a passion for makeup helps her feel ‘beautiful’ after spending three weeks of every month covered head-to-toe in red dirt.

Jasmine Reilly, 27, from Perth, Western Australia, is a process operator at an iron ore mine – a career she chose because she was attracted to the money and the lifestyle it offered her.

‘I work in some very harsh conditions and the heat in summer can reach the high 40s – the other day it was 49 degrees,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘The red dirt stains my skin and gets into every part imaginable, even the inside of my ears are full of dirt.’

‘It takes me at least a week when I get home to get it out of my skin and finger nails.

Her job as a process operator entails managing the full production of the plant and checking it for damage, which means she walks between 20 to 30 kilometres a day in the intense heat.

Jasmine works 12.5 hour days and her roster is two weeks on and one week off, with one week of days and one week of nights.

‘I work in extremely dusty conditions, and I am outside in the sun all day long,’ she said.

‘The dry, hot and dusty conditions wreak havoc on my skin so I wash my face with a Face Halo and with a Clearasil face wash, moisturiser and lip balm every day.’

Looking after her skin is important as it becomes so dry while she works, so when she has time off she always treats herself to a face mask and a hair treatment.

‘This is probably why I am so into makeup, I spend two weeks of my life feeling and looking like a grub so when I get home I just want full glamour,’ she said.

‘I want to feel beautiful, be girly and spend hours doing my makeup.’

She explained that she also loves the art that is involved in makeup and she has plenty of time at work to plan the looks she wants to create.

Jasmine also loves shopping online for new products as she enjoys testing out new items to find the ‘best of the best’.

At the moment the 27-year-old isn’t trained in makeup, it’s just a passion and hobby, but this is something she wishes to change.

For the past five months Jasmine has also been working on creating her own makeup subscription box business and is aiming to launch it in Australia in May 2019.

‘I’m always jealous when I see girls from America opening up their boxes every month, so I searched for one in Australia and there really isn’t a makeup only subscription box around so I decided to create my own,’ she said.

I find the elder generation have more of an issue with women on the mines but my generation treat me completely equal and I have no issues at all.

‘I feel I am very lucky to have a job that allows me to have financial freedom and that allows me the time off to concentrate on my dreams and my business, it’s a hard job but it’s definitely worth it.’

Although Jasmine is thankful for the job she is, she said working in a male-dominated industry has both its pros and cons.

‘I have an awesome crew and I am lucky enough to work for Gina Rinehart, who is all about empowering woman in the workplace and in mining, and it does show compared to other mine sites I have worked on,’ she continued.

‘We have a lot of female workers here and there really isn’t any male and female divide.’

Apart from starting her own business, Jasmine said she appreciates the different things mining has allowed her to do, such as travel overseas.

It has also enabled her to conquer another passion – mountain climbing.

‘I have climbed 13 mountains and have been fortunate enough to climb in the Himalayas and even on Mount Everest,’ she said.

‘I have been very lucky to be able to spend the past eight years travelling around the world on my days off.’
