Zippy Fish already stands out from her peers thanks to her unforgettable name – and the budding footy star is now on the verge of hitting the big time in footy.

Fish, 17, has been a standout in midfield this season for East Fremantle in the WAFLW competition – and recently had a day out against Peel Thunder.

The teenager with potentially the best name in Australian sport finished with 29 disposals and 12 inside 50s – before kicking two goals for good measure in the 105-point win.

It was a scintillating performance which more than justified Fish’s status as the AFLW’s potential No.1 draft selection.

When it comes to her very unique name, the youngster revealed she it’s actually short for Zipporah, which is biblical in origin.

After growing up in Newman - a Pilbara town about five hours' drive south of Port Hedland and 13 hours north-east of Perth - Zippy took a while to discover her love of Aussie Rules

Fish added her preferred positions are on-ball or half-back, as she likes to see the action from ‘behind the play’.

She went onto list her speed and agility as her best on-field assets, and Fish wants to eventually crack the AFLW.

After growing up in Newman, a town in the Pilbara about five hours’ drive south of Port Hedland, and 13 hours north-east of Perth – she took a while to discover her love of Aussie Rules.

‘My first sport was actually athletics. I played nearly every sport [while in Newman], then moved to Perth. ‘I was doing athletics, changed over to soccer, then played basketball for a couple of years,’ Fish told AFL.com.au.

‘My footy career started about four years ago, I reckon. I was watching a couple of friends playing down at the local club, and I was like, ‘Oh Dad, this looks like a bit of fun.’

Come December, Fish is hoping her name is read out for the draft – and away from footy, she’s studying to be a teacher.
