Megan Gale makes shock career announcement as the model signs multi-year deal

Megan Gale has announced her return to the spotlight.

The Australian model, 49, has re-signed as an ambassador for David Jones, marking her triumphant return to the iconic department store.

Gale, who first signed with David Jones in 2001 and held the role until 2013, has rejoined the brand in a multi-year deal.

It comes after Gale celebrated the store’s 185th anniversary in March.

‘It was lovely to be approached and invited back; I think it is perfect timing, too,’ Megan told The Herald Sun on Sunday.

‘It was perfect timing when we hit pause and it gave me a really lovely opportunity to step into a new role of being a mum and sink myself into that, but it has been a decade now since we hit pause and I had always hoped there might be some kind of scope to work together in the future.

While the term ‘supermodel’ is often associated with Gale, the mum-of-two insists she’s more of a ‘super mum’ these days.

Engaged to former Richmond footballer Shaun Hampson, Megan is all about juggling the demands of motherhood with her return to the fashion world.

‘It’s an amazing compliment, but I just have to laugh because I just don’t think it applies to me,’ Gale said, downplaying her supermodel status.

‘I think what I do that is more super is the way I wrangle my kids’ activities and remember that I need to register them both for basketball because the cut off day is today, and I need to take them to swimming and ballet and gymnastics, and that it is someone’s birthday so I have to race out and get a present. Call me super for that.’

The Perth-born star rose to fame in 1999 after starring in advertisements for an Italian telecommunication company.

She then went on to become ‘the face of Australia in Italy’ for the Australian Tourist Commission in 2003.

Megan has also appeared in several Hollywood films, including Mad Max: Fury Road and The Water Diviner.

Last year, the model revealed she is open to return to modelling, 16 years after she retired from the industry.

Speaking to Stellar magazine, the Australian supermodel said she thoroughly enjoyed her one-off return to the catwalk for David Jones’ 185th anniversary back in March, 2023.
