Meghan Markle has been branded ‘cringy’ after she likened her marriage to Prince Harry to the popular game Super Mario Brothers.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, made the comparison as she spoke to her friend, IT Cosmetics CEO Jamie Kern Lima, in her first ever podcast interview released on Monday.

During the episode, Meghan reflected on the last seven years of her relationship with Harry, 40, and recognized just how far they’ve come as a couple.

In doing so, she referred to the famous Nintendo gaming series Super Mario Bros, which was first arrived on the scene in 1985.

‘H, that man loves me so much and you know, look what we’ve built,’ Meghan began. ‘We built a beautiful life and we have two healthy, beautiful children.

‘I always think about it like the end of Super Mario Brothers when you get to the final level and what’s the goal? They’re like slay the dragon, save the princess. That’s my husband.’

When asked whether she’s in love more than ever before, Meghan answered: ‘You have to imagine, at the beginning it’s like butterflies, and then we immediately went into the trenches together right out of the gate, six months into dating.

‘So, now seven years later when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that’s why I feel like it’s more of a honeymoon period for us now.’

Jamie then asked Meghan whether she thinks she’ll be married to Prince Harry ‘forever’ before Meghan simply replied: ‘Yes.’

But the mom-of-two’s bizarre comparison did not sit well with listeners with many quick to share their thoughts.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one simply blasted: ‘So cringe.’

Someone else mocked: ‘Meghan Markle thinks she’s The Princess and Prince Harry is Super Mario [laughing face emoji].’

Another echoed a similar sentiment, adding: ‘Why is Meghan so obsessed with all things British? You notice in this interview she was trying to call Harry a dragon slayer in her little reference to the Super Mario story. Everything Meghan does is scripted and she is so fake.’

One added: ‘Okay, she really is fake, just cringe-level phony…’

Not holding back their mean-spirited opinion, a third said: ‘She is so pathetic and phony.

‘Everything that comes out of her mouth makes her more unrelatable and weird.’

Gushing over her husband Prince Harry in a new interview, Meghan said: 'H, that man loves me so much and you know, look what we've built. We built a beautiful life and we have two healthy, beautiful children'

Many, however, also rushed to defend Meghan and in turn berated her critics.

‘Why are so many of you offended by the fact her husband truly loves her and she is happy?’ one asked. ‘I don’t even like Markle but nothing she says here is outrageous.’

‘If your marriage isn’t a Super Mario marriage, does it even count?’ said another.

Elsewhere in her interview, Meghan revealed she was sending her two young children – Archie, five, and Lilibet, three – an email every day to create a ‘time capsule’ they could revisit when they are older.

At one point, she became emotional as she read out a letter from them which read: ‘From Archie and Lili via Papa.

‘We love your cooking. We love your pancakes, and we love, love, love your hugs. You’re the best mummy and we love you.’

Referring to the note, Meghan said: ‘So sweet. I also love that it’s mummy, instead of mommy, which is very British.’

Blinking back tears, she added: ‘I wasn’t expecting this, they’re just so great. This is why it’s so nice to have no make up on, thank you.’

Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, where they have lived for over five years.
