Meghan Markle dons a $30 ASOS maternity dress and a $1,000 coat as she arrives in New Zealand

The Duchess of Sussex has matched her trademark taste for high fashion with a budget black dress as she and Prince Harry touched down for the final leg of their  mammoth tour.

Stepping off the Royal New Zealand Air Force plane in Wellington, the country’s capital, Meghan Markle looked regal as she revealed her surprisingly affordable look.

Battling the region’s notoriously windy weather, it was a Karen Walker trench coat which the Duchess chose to disguise her burgeoning baby bump.

Hallmarked by a plaid and double-breasted front, the coat retails for $975AUD (£540) and is not available to the public until mid-November.

This was paired with suede $375AUD (£207) Sarah Flint heels and an affordable black ASOS maternity dress, which is available for just $30AUD (£54).

Teaming high-end couture with high-street style is not something the Duchess has so far displayed a knack for since joining the Royal family, instead favouring creations past the price-points of many of her fans.

The Royal couple’s 16-day tour has seen the mother-to-be step out in dozens of designer outfits – resulting in a wardrobe bill that is expected to top $100,000.

On the tarmac in Wellington, the couple were greeted by New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern before participating in a traditional Maori welcome.

Hours earlier, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex climbed aboard the same jet in Sydney, and bid farewell to Australia after a collective ten-day stay.

While Prince Harry sported the same grey suit he wore upon landing, his 37-year-old wife had undergone a complete costume change while in the air.

Prior to departure, the mother-to-be chose to pair a burgundy Hugo Boss number with Aquazzura peach suede pumps that would have set her back $911AUD (£505).

She completed the outfit with a mini chain saddle bag from the brand Cuyana, which retails for around $317AUD (£175).

However, fans hoping to emulate the look were encouraged be quick as the quartz saddle bag has already sold out and the Hugo Boss jersey dress only available on the brand’s website.

Although still out-of-reach to most royal-watchers, the high-necked number is relatively cheap compared to other looks sported throughout the 16-day tour.

So far, her fashion forward engagements have stretched across Australia, Fiji and Tonga with Meghan and spending 10 days in Australia and a further four across the Pacific region.

She and Prince  Harry wound up their official events in Australia at the Sydney closing ceremony of the Invictus Games for war wounded that the Duke founded.

The royal couple joined the 12,000-strong crowd on Saturday night in clapping and cheering throughout the two-hour long ceremony that included performances by Perth rock outfit Birds of Tokyo and the gospel singers from the US-based Kingdom Choir who performed at Meghan and Harry’s wedding in May.

But it was a windy goodbye with Meghan wearing a silken burgundy dress and peach suede heels and Harry a dark grey suit.
