Meghan Markle makes her Ascot debut with Prince Harry

All eyes were on Meghan as she made her Royal Ascot debut on Tuesday.

And the newly-minted Duchess of Sussex once again snubbed tradition by showcasing an ultra-modern monochrome look.

Prince Harry’s wife, 36, wore a crisp white coat dress featuring an edgy asymmetrical hemline, in stark contrast to the sea of sensible pastel-coloured frocks on display in the Royal Enclosure.

Meghan paired the frock, from wedding dress designer Givenchy, with a statement black and white hat from milliner Philip Treacy.

And according to celebrity stylist Lucas Armitage, the outfit serves as proof that Meghan is determined to put her own ‘cool and contemporary’ stamp on royal dressing.

He told FEMAIL: ‘Meghan is showing us what she does best, taking a chic item and putting her unique spin on it.

‘It’s a classic coat dress – which has long being a favoured style for Ascot goers – but Meghan has injected high fashion credentials to what could be considered a standard clothing item.

‘She chooses Givenchy again and again, and I’m sure she has her own specific ideas and suggestions when working with the house to create bespoke items.

‘The details here really elevate this to a cool and contemporary Ascot look while adhering to Ascot’s strict dress code.

‘The hat adds more edge, thanks to its structural shaping and absence of anything fussy.’

Givenchy is fast becoming the Duchess’ go-to designer and last week dressed her for her first official engagement with the Queen in Cheshire.

Stylist Rochelle White last week revealed it was important for designers to form relationships with high-profile clients like the royals.

Commenting on Meghan's accessories, Lucas said: 'The details here really elevate this to a cool and contemporary Ascot look while adhering to Ascots rules on dress code. The fascination ads more edge with its structural shaping and absence of anything fussy'

She said: ‘Having a good relationships Is key and I think works in favour of the designer. The Royals are big fashion influencers and people relate to who and what they wear.

‘Designers know that, wherever a royal is seen or photographed is great for them and their designs.’

Miss White said: ‘I feel that Givenchy is a good fit for Megan, due to their style and trends. They have a way of keeping things classic, and elegant but with a trendy edge.

‘It’s a way to keep to her true style without compromising on her royal status.’
