  • Pam Chilton, form the UK, revealed she didn’t help design Meghan’s dress
  • She thinks the royal may have been inspired by her design from a young age

Meghan Markle’s stunning Givenchy wedding dress could have been inspired by her watching ‘The Wedding Planner’ at sleepovers, according to the film’s costume designer.

Back in May 2018, the Duchess, 38, walked down the aisle at St George’s Chapel wearing a Clare Waight Keller gown, with many quick to draw comparisons to the dress worn by Jennifer Lopez in the 2001 movie.

Now, US-based Pam Chilton, the costume designer from the iconic movie, has cleared up rumors and confirmed she did not have any involvement in making the wedding dress.

‘I got a lot of texts about Meghan Markle’s wedding dress, I’m like, “Well, I’m sure it’s a coincidence,” she said, speaking to Glamour. ‘But she was at a good rom-com age when the movie came out — she could have been watching it at sleepovers!’

And the similarities caused quite a stir online too, with many quick to express their views on social media.

‘Anyone else get J.Lo in the Wedding Planner vibes from Meghan Markle’s dress?’ wrote one, while a second penned:

‘Anyone else getting a very J.Lo Wedding Planner vibe from the new Duchess of Sussex’s wedding dress?’

A third added: ‘Uh we saw J.Lo wear this dress in The Wedding Planner…’

Meghan chose acclaimed British designer, Clare, 48, from Birmingham, the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy, to design her dress after meeting in early 2018.

The pair worked closely together on the design, with Ms. Waight Keller carrying out extensive research at fabric mills throughout Europe, to develop an exclusive double bonded silk cady especially for Meghan.

Together, the pair decided this was perfect for the round sculptural look required while the soft matt lustre, bonding process and pure white color bring a fresh modernity to the dress.

In a statement, Ms Waight Keller said: ‘It has been an immensely rewarding experience to get to know Meghan on a personal level, one I will forever carry with me. The House of Givenchy joins me in wishing her and Prince Harry every wish of happiness in their future.’
