‘It’s just time for feel good, warm nostalgia,’ she said of the iconic show, which last aired on Channel Nine in 2011.

‘I think we all need a big warm hug, so hopefully that’s what it’ll do.’

Mel also gave an update on her personal life, revealing that her son Nick is now 21 and studying abroad, while daughter Tully, 18, just started university.

‘They were all born during the show!’ Kochie exclaimed.

‘I know,’ Mel gushed. ‘Everyone knows them since they were tiny little babies. It’s nice to come back and see you guys.’

Mel previously hosted Sunrise from 2002 until she was replaced by Samantha Armytage in 2013.

She’s been busy this year, recently presenting Nine’s observational prison series Australia Behind Bars, but has returned to Seven to host the revamped This Is Your Life.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph in April, the 52-year-old said she’s ‘honoured to continue the legacy of such an iconic program’.

Based on the original American format, This Is Your Life showcases the life of a guest celebrity, sports star, performer or high achiever in a certain discipline each episode, with contributions from family and friends.

This Is Your Life premiered on Seven in 1975 with journalist Mike Willesee as host.

It lasted until 1980 with hosts Digby Wolfe and Roger Climpson and was then axed by the network.

It made a return on Channel Nine from 1995 to 2005 with Munro back in the hosting chair, and there was an additional season in 2008.

The program was then taken off the air again for two years before Eddie McGuire helmed a short four-episode run of the series in 2011.
