Mel Gibson is spotted in an arm sling during night out with friends in LA… amid rumors he will be directing and filming Lethal Weapon 5 in 2024

Mel Gibson enjoyed a night out with friends at Taverna Tony in Malibu on Friday.

The 67-year-old actor was spotted wearing a sling on his arm as he caught up with two of his pals over dinner.

He put on a casual display as he layered a white-button-down over a dark top and sported a pair of denim jeans.

The Mad Max star — who treated his longtime girlfriend, Rosalind Ross, 33, and their six-year-old son Lars to a fancy meal weeks earlier — kept it low-key in a pair of black, rubber slides.

The director toted around a light jacket on one arm and also carried his phone and a pair of glasses in his other hand with the sling.

Earlier this week, rumors emerged that Gibson will be directing and reprising his role in the Lethal Weapon 5 sometime next year.

World of Reel reported that production is set to begin sometime following the New Year — over two years after Gibson confirmed he would be working on the fifth film in the series.

In November 2021, Gibson had confirmed that he was in talks to direct and star in the film as reported by Variety.

He said he wanted to honor the original director — the late Richard Donner, who wrote the screenplay and was set to direct prior to his death in July 2021.

While speaking at an event in London, The Sun reported the original Superman director had told his wife as well as the studio and producer that he wanted to pass the baton to Gibson.

‘He was developing the screenplay and he got pretty far along with it,’ Gibson recalled. ‘And he said to me one day, “Listen, kid. If I kick the bucket, you will do it.”

‘And I said, “Shut up”,’ he explained at the time. ‘He did indeed pass away, but he did ask me to do it, and, at the time, I didn’t say anything.’

He noted that Donner had also told the studio he wanted to have Gibson direct the fifth movie.

‘He said it to his wife and to the studio and the producer,’ he said. ‘So, I will be directing the fifth one’.

Gibson recently filmed and completed his sixth directorial project, Flight Risk, with Mark Wahlberg earlier this fall.

The film is anticipated to be released sometime in 2024.

Over a 30-year timespan, Gibson has directed five films, including Braveheart and Apocalypto.

Last October, his most recent project, a Southern Noir thriller titled Desperation Road, was released.

His thriller action film, Confidential Informant, was also released earlier this year in late June.
