A fashion blogger’s simple trick for neatly knotting the front of a shirt has been hailed as ‘life-changing’ by delighted Australian women.

Maria, who posts as ‘Budget Savvy Style Girl’, shared an Instagram video on Monday showing viewers how to tie fabric in a ‘square knot’ so that it sits flat against the  body with the ends hanging evenly down either side.

In the clip, the fashionista from Melbourne is seen holding the ends of a button-front blouse with the left side in her left hand and the right side in her right.

She crosses the left over the right, then brings the end of the left through the middle to form a knot, pulling each end tightly to hold it in place.

‘I’ve recently discovered this styling tip! It’s very simple but I found it very useful,’ Maria wrote in the caption.

Women have thanked her for sharing the trick, with one declaring: ‘This has literally changed my life.’

Another said: ‘Thank you, I always tied the knots in a super unsymmetrical way.’

The video is the latest styling tip posted by the up-and-coming blogger, who specialises in building outfits from discount brands like Kmart and second-hand thrift stores.

Earlier on Monday, Maria posted a series of photos showing three ways to style a pre-loved shirt from St Vincent’s charity shop, telling followers she ‘can’t get over’ the quality of the vintage piece.

The first look features high-waisted ‘mum’ jeans, flat black sandals and a black shoulder bag, perfect for a casual weekend lunch or a day browsing in shops.

Maria used the square knot trick to tie the front of the shirt just above the waistband of the jeans.

The second – a dressier look ideal for ‘date night’ or dinner with friends – is made up of lace-up heels and tight black skinny jeans.

The shirt is tucked into the waistband and the sleeves are rolled up the elbows in trendy cuffs, giving the top a sleeker finish.

The third look, suitable for summer afternoons at the beach, features white trainers and denim shorts, with one side of the shirt tucked in and the other hanging loose over the top – proving there’s few pieces more versatile than a classic white shirt.
