Two would-be contract killers were caught on CCTV firing bullets through a car window attempting to murder a bikie – but the victim walked away almost entirely unscathed.

Rocco Curra, a 37-year-old member of the Mongols MC chapter in Melbourne, suffered injuries to his head and upper body after the late night attack.

He had been waiting in his car in a quiet suburban street when the two men arrived in a silver BMW and parked diagonally in front of his car, blocking his escape path.

Nearby cameras captured the moment the two men opened fire on the car – before even checking who was inside.

The entire ordeal was over within seconds and the men fled in the same car they arrived in, which was later found burned out.

Detective acting Sen-Sgt Justin Mercovich of the Echo Taskforce said the style of the attack meant it was ‘lucky that other people weren’t inadvertently injured or killed’.

‘There are some connections to a number of organised crime groups, so this is certainly an avenue of enquiry for us,’ he said.

Officers are also considering the possibility Curra was lured to the street.

‘This is a quiet, suburban part of Melbourne on a Thursday night and isn’t the sort of place someone would necessarily go unless they had a specific reason to be there,’ Sgt Mercovich said.

The taskforce released the footage – as well as a composite image of a man they’d like to speak with regarding the attack – hoping someone would come forward with information.

The man in question is of Middle Eastern appearance with short hair and a groomed beard.

Curra was able to get to a nearby house despite his injuries and emergency services were called.

Since the incident, Curra has refused to assist police with their investigation.
