Melbourne girl with leukaemia fulfils trip to Disneyland

An eight-year-old terminally ill girl who beat cancer three times has fulfilled her wish by going on a dream holiday with her family to Disneyland.

Cancer-stricken girl Bella Allan, from Melbourne, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia at the tender age of six.

But the brave girl – who celebrates her ninth birthday on Friday – has proved to be a fighter after battling against the incurable disease three times.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, her mother Alison Allan, 40, revealed her anguish of not knowing how much time she has left with her daughter.

Opening up about her heartbreak, Ms Allan said the family were left reeling after they were told there was still no cure for their daughter.

‘I felt as though someone had ripped my heart out of my chest,’ she told FEMAIL.

‘Bella was also in the room and she broke down crying and so did her oncology team. It’s the worst thing a mother can experience.

‘[But] I have to remain strong and show no fear as she reads everything off my emotions – if I break she breaks.

‘At this stage, she is on maintenance chemotherapy to try and keep a lid on her leukaemia as long as possible.

‘There is still no cure for her, so fingers crossed we can keep this disease away for as long as possible.’

Building fond memories together, the family of five recently embarked on a two-week trip of a lifetime to the US after generous strangers raised money for the holiday.

‘It was amazing to see her so happy,’ Ms Allan said.

‘We were able to fully escape the reality of the situation. Disneyland is everything everyone says it is, you can’t do anything but smile when you are there.

‘It’s the happiest I have seen Bella for a long time.’

The mother-of-three – who was a boxing championship division winner – made the decision to step away from the ring to spend quality time with her daughter.

‘Bella relapsed a year ago for the first time so I needed to step away and give my focus to Bella,’ she said.

‘When you have no idea how much time you have left with your child, you want to make sure you cherish every moment with them.

‘Boxing was such a huge commitment, I couldn’t allow myself to give up so much time to boxing over Bella and my children.’

Earlier this year, Bella grabbed national headlines after she was forced to give away her Justin Bieber concert tickets to undergo chemotherapy treatment.

Her story sparked a social media campaign, with the hashtag #BeiberMeetBella trending all over the world – but unfortunately the superstar couldn’t visit her.

Bella has since undergone two bone marrow transplants – and she has been battling graft-versus-host disease where the donor cells attack surviving leukaemia cells.

The eight-year-old girl has been in and out of hospital since her shock diagnosis at age six

‘She has beat cancer three times. We have cleared her of leukaemia now. Bella is travelling along okay,’ Ms Allan said.

‘She has had a couple of rough weeks and just got out of hospital again. She was suffering from unexplained rectum bleeding last week.

‘She is due to have all her re-testing in the next couple of weeks to see where we are at leukaemia wise.’

Despite the difficulties coping with the condition, the loving family are staying positive as they tick off their bucket list with Bella.

‘It has been a roller coaster ride,’ Ms Allan said.

‘We have tried our best to keep our family life as normal as possible, with the other two kids still being able to do their sports and activities as before.

‘It’s hard when Bella has unexpected hospital stays, I’m removed from the house and I have to rely on friends and family to help out with the other two.

‘[But] we are trying to do as much as possible together as a family and create as many treasured memories together.

‘We just got back from Disneyland, in which a fundraiser was held to raise money to send Bella there. Before that we took Bella to Queensland to do the theme parks.

‘It’s her birthday this Friday, so we are making sure we do everything she wants to do to make it as special and memorable as possible.’
