A derelict Melbourne home so run down moviemakers considered using it as the set of a horror film is up for sale for almost $1million.

The house, which does not have a kitchen or a bathroom, is located on Grantham Street in Brunswick West, according to Realestate.com.

After hitting the market with a sale price of $950,000, Grantham Real Estate director Darren Barr said the house garnered interest from aspiring filmmakers because of its tattered appearance.

Ragged curtains are pictured hanging throughout the home.

‘Unfortunately I couldn’t let them film, the floorboards would probably cave in,’ Mr Barr said.

The home has been vacant for years, he said, and is ‘completely stuffed.’

‘You couldn’t live in it if you wanted to,’ Mr Barr said.

Despite its eerie appearance, the real estate director said the home is not haunted.

‘I checked that when I first walked in,’ he said.

The property, which sits on 386sqm of land, has received a number of inquiries from potential buyers, Mr Barr said.
