Melbourne man charged with murder of American wife Mildura

A Melbourne man has been charged with the murder of his American wife who he became engaged to just two weeks after meeting on Facebook.

Steven Samaras, 49, was charged with the murder of Tamara Turner, 49, after she was found dead outside the Mildura Base Hospital in Victoria’s far north in June last year.

Police say Ms Turner was already dead when she was found dumped on a bench outside the hospital after suffering injuries consistent with violent assault, The Age reported.

Ms Turner’s son Chuck Smith said the pair became engaged to each other in February 2016, two weeks after they met online.

He said they quickly became ‘obsessed’ with each other.

‘We were all concerned about it,’ Mr Smith told The Age.

‘But me and my sister wanted her to be happy. I mean, she was a 48-year-old woman, you got to do what makes you happy.’

In the hours after Ms Turner’s death, Mr Samaras, also known as Steven Kallouf, posted a string of messages on Facebook grieving his wife.

‘Fly high with the angels, you’re taken from me in this life gorgeous, but I will be with you in the next life,’ he said.

In another emotional post Mr Samaras said his wife died in his arms.

‘U didn’t want to lose me and I lost you … Passing away in my arms hurt me, I don’t know what to say to the kids either,’ he said.
