Ms Spiteri said fearful for the safety of her two children and outraged that she was targeted for peacefully expressing an opinion.
‘This is absolutely a legitimate attack on me, a straight ally, who happens to be flying some rainbow flags,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.
‘I have no issue with people having an opposing opinion to mine. As long as they express that view respectfully.
‘This is not respectful. This is a threat. And I will not tolerate my children being threatened.’

The furious mother notified police and handed over CCTV footage showing the letter writer ride up to her house on a bike and put it in her mailbox.
They then kicked over their bin and rode away, but Ms Spiteri said the it was likely too dark for detectives to identify them.
‘Whoever it was is irrational and uninformed. I’d say he’s done his worst, but I wasn’t going to leave it to chance, which is why I contacted the police,’ she said.
‘I have many LGBTQI friends who are so afraid and upset by this vote. How dare anyone’s relationship be put out for public scrutiny.’

But she refused to be intimidated by anonymous opponents of gay marriage and was disappointed she had to take the decorations down to have her house photographed for sale.
‘It makes me angry because they’ll think they’ve won. It’s so important for allies to stand up for those who are most affected by this vote,’ she said.
Ms Spiteri was heartened that though a local ‘no’ voter threatened her, another woman was dropping off rainbow bunting to everyone in the neighbourhood.
