A shooting death of a man in Melbourne’s northwest has been labelled an gangland execution after his ties to the city’s underworld were revealed.
Hawre Sherwani was shot on Heyson Parkway in Caroline Springs about 10.30pm on Thursday night, possibly as he sat in his car, with multiple gunshots heard by residents.
Sherwani has been linked to the Comanchero bikie gang and has been investigated over the last ten years for drug trafficking, gun crimes and standover activity, The Herald Sun reported.
Forensic police were seen scouring the crime scene for clues on Friday as police launch an urgent investigation to find those responsible, who remain on the run.
A bullet riddled white Volkswagen was seen on the street alongside a discarded pistol and a number of bullet casings.

Police confirmed they were called to the area on Thursday night where they found a man injured by a gunshot wound.
An injured Sherwani reportedly stumbled down the street knocking on doors for help.
‘He was taken to hospital and subsequently died,’ a police spokesperson said.
Police have appealed to the public for information.
