A Melbourne family is celebrating after raking in three division one wins in a single lotto draw, taking home more than $2.3million by using a set of traditional lucky numbers.

The family, from Springvale in southeast Melbourne, were thrilled by their decision to mark the entry with their long-held special set of numbers after it delivered them three division one wins in the one TattsLotto draw on December 17, just a week out from Christmas.

A week had passed since the draw, which had resulted in seven division one wins, before the syndicate of siblings realised its triumphant win on Christmas Eve. Their ticket scored a total prize of $2,349,901.83.

The sibling group had a three-game System 7 entry however each of the three games had the same set of numbers – 8, 36, 37, 41, 3 and 28, with 9 and 16 as the supplementary numbers.

The family syndicate leader told The Lott it had used a ‘special set of family numbers that won division two a long time ago and we just kept them going’.

He said he usually checked the family tickets straight away but on this occasion had waited a week.

‘We only found out on Saturday. I didn’t know it was a winning ticket,’ he said.

‘I normally check the numbers and tick them off like in the olden days. Thankfully I’d held onto the ticket and remembered to check it while in a store.’

The family member said his siblings were naturally ‘excited’ upon hearing the news of their stunning win.

‘We all have mortgages, so this will help,’ he said.

‘I think we’ll also think of some creative ways to splurge and enjoy the prize as well – maybe a fancy holiday, a family holiday.’

The winning entry was purchased at Southvale Newsagency, 565 Springvale Road, Springvale South.

Southvale Newsagency owner Samuel Zeng said he was shocked to learn of further division one wins at his South Springvale store.

‘When I first saw we’d sold another division one winning ticket, I couldn’t believe this was true because our outlet just sold a division one win three months ago,’ he said.

‘Our customers will think we are the lucky shop as we’ve sold five division one wins since October last year. We’re ready for the next division one win now.’

A $100million Powerball draw on Thursday is set to be the third biggest jackpot by any Australian lottery game in 2022, and could result in the nation’s newest multi-millionaire before the year ends.

The jackpot soared to $100million after no one claimed a division one winning entry in the $50million draw on December 22.
