Melbourne tradie spoke of horror after buried in mud sewer

A Melbourne tradie has revealed the moment he was stuck in a sewer for two hours fearing for death. 

Brandon Grech, 20, was buried alive up to his neck by mud in a five-metre sewer in Essendon, in Melbourne’s north, after a wall collapsed Thursday afternoon.

The young father told Neil Mitchell on 3AW he thought he ‘was gone’.

He started frantically digging himself out, but as the situation worsened a fire brigade was called to help lift him out of the underground sewer (pictured)

‘I feared for my life. I thought I was gone,’ Mr Grech said. 

‘Just doing my job, doing the maintenance on the sewer, and yeah, it come in on me.’

The 20-year-old tradie soon found himself pinned down and unable to move his legs.

He started frantically digging himself out, but as the situation worsened a fire brigade was called to help lift him out of the underground sewer.

‘My shoelaces everything got cut off me, lost me work shorts as well,’ Mr Grech said. 

‘I just told him I wanted to go home to my kids. [The firefighter] said he wanted to go home to the dogs that he had.’

According to 9 News, the young tradie was taken to hospital but only had a sore hip.

The 20-year-old had to dig himself out otherwise his legs were pinned down and couldn’t move
