A powerful storm cell and flash flooding halted flights at Melbourne Airport on Saturday as the city was plunged into darkness.
Flights were delayed as lightning surges in the area threatened to strike aircraft and employees.
A Melbourne Airport spokesman told Daily Mail Australia staff were working to get all affected flights back on schedule once the lightning passed.
Flash flooding caused a few leaks inside the airport as passengers were warned not to rush to avoid slipping.

More than 24mm of rain fell on the city from 3.30pm as torrential rain wrecked havoc on the roads and railways.
Travelers at Flinders Street station were lashed with rain, as the station and entryways were flooded.
Water could be seen rushing down stairs into the station as travelers were forced to wait out the storm.
The Bureau of Meteorology had forecast heavy rainfall, large hailstones and flash flooding for parts of Melbourne, leaving over 7,000 without power, 9 News reports.

Central Melbourne, and the suburbs of Greensborough, Preston, Coburg, Doncaster and Footscray were expected to cop heavy rain and possible hailstones, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
While the SES had advised people to move vehicles out from underneath trees and stay away from flood waters, some motorists had other ideas.
