A mother has claimed her daughter was acting in self-defense when she choked another girl until she collapsed during a vicious brawl at a Melbourne school.
Shocking footage of the fight shows the two teenage schoolgirls St Helena’s Secondary College in Eltham North attacking each other on the school grounds about 1.30pm on Wednesday.
The girls can be seen punching each other and wrestling on the ground before one of the girls placed the other in a choke hold – a martial arts move her mother says she learned to defend herself from bullies.
‘There’s a lot more information, there’s a lot more facts that people are not aware of,’ the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told radio station 3AW.

The mother claimed her daughter has been the victim of bullying and another student recently texted the teen’s boyfriend threatening ‘to punching her lights out’.
The 14-year-old girl who collapsed was taken to hospital after the fight, but the woman said her daughter was ‘black and blue as well.’
‘As a parent I’m disgusted, I’m appalled. I’m just horrified to watch that.’
The school has suspended bother girls for five days.
One of the girls was unconscious after the fight, while other students watched on and cheered.

St Helena Secondary College acting principal Anesti Anestis told the Herald Sun ‘appropriate disciplinary action will now follow’.
‘There is no place for incidents like this at our school. It is disappointing and does not reflect the behaviour of the overwhelming majority of our students,’ he said.
He said neither student was seriously injured in the melee, although one was taken to hospital as a ‘precautionary measure and has since been released’.
Both students and their parents were spoken to by police officers on Wednesday.
