An elderly Melbourne woman has had her nose broken in a brazen random attack that follows a string of similar crimes in the area this week.

The 70-year-old victim was assaulted by a young woman as she walked along Clow Street near the Dandenong Market on March 4.

After the offender, aged between her late teens and early 20s, punched the woman in the face she quickly fled north towards Princes Highway.

Senior Constable Tony Lavars of the Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit told the Greater Dandenong Leader that a passer-by stopped to aid the injured pensioner after the frightening assault.

The Good Samaritan took the woman to hospital where it was revealed she had a broken nose.

Sen-Constable Lavars said the perpetrator didn’t attempt to steal from the victim and no demands for money were made.

Just two days earlier a similar shocking incident took place in the adjacent Dandenong Plaza.

Over the weekend a group of youths threw a shopping trolley onto the roof of a woman’s car as she drove into the Plaza’s car park below.

Although she wasn’t injured, the victim said she heard a loud bang when the trolley hit the bonnet of her car.

The incidents follow a series of criminal offences in the area this week including a factory invasion in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police are currently appealing for information after a factory invasion and later pursuit on Hammond Road in the suburb’s south.

It is believed two men gained entry to a premises before stealing seven televisions and a jet ski and fleeing the scene.

Victoria Police attempted to intercept the vehicle before quickly terminating the pursuit for safety reasons.

Anyone with information in relation to any of the offences is urged to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
