Melbourne woman killed hit and run ‘stolen Lexus’ hit her

A 53-year-old woman is dead after police say a stolen white Lexus smashed into her car in Melbourne overnight before its driver fled on foot.

The woman was driving a silver Toyota on Warrigal Road and attempting to turn right at the Barkly Street intersection when the Lexus collided with her around 11pm, according to Victoria police. 

The unidentified woman died at the scene and police are still looking for the other driver, described as a man in his 20s or 30s. 

Police said they believe speed was a factor in the fatal crash.

A witness said the male driver checked on the woman but ran from the scene when no one was looking.

Another person at the scene said the male driver told them he was ‘ok and just needed a few minutes’ before he fled, according to 9News. 

The man, who is described as 181cm tall with a solid build and short dark hair, was last seen heading north along Warrigal Road, before turning east, police said. 

Officers used helicopters and dogs in their search for the man overnight but are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. 

Police believe he could be injured and seeking medical attention.

The man was last seen wearing long shorts, a dark t-shirt and runners.

Police were told the Lexus was seen earlier in the night in Chadstone and want to speak to anyone who might have seen the vehicle leading up to the crash.

Investigators also want to speak to witnesses at the scene.
