A woman has been killed by a lightning strike as thunderstorms hammered Melbourne overnight.
A young couple in their 20s were hit as they stood between their car and a tree in Chirnside Park in the city’s northwestern suburbs at 8:40pm on Friday.
The man went into cardiac arrest after being electrocuted, and the woman was rushed to hospital having lost feeling in her legs.

The pair had been watching the storm strike the city when the bolt of lightning hit them and the man remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Homes in Altona Meadows were still without power on Saturday morning, and outages were reported in Geelong, Corio, Pipers Creek, Stanhope and Mortlake.
Lightning was confirmed as being responsible for further outages in Gisbourne and Ondit.
