Melissa Doyle says she feels ‘sad’ for female celebrities who get plastic surgery

Melissa Doyle, 53, says she feels ‘sad’ for female celebrities who get plastic surgery to look younger on the red carpet: ‘Ageing is natural’

Melissa Doyle has shared her refreshing perspective on ageing as a woman in the public eye.

Speaking to Stellar magazine on Sunday, the former Sunrise presenter, 53, revealed why she’s chosen to age naturally, and admitted she pities female celebrities who take drastic steps to slow down the ageing process – including getting plastic surgery.

‘I feel sad someone feels they need to change so much to live up to others’ expectations,’ she explained.

‘If that’s what she wants to do to make herself feel better then go for it, but do it for you. Don’t do it for the commentators or the red carpet,’ Melissa added.

She chose not to mention the names of the celebrities to whom she was referring.

Melissa continued: ‘Ageing is natural. It happens to us from the day we’re born. So why do we fight it?’

‘I’m not going to pretend there aren’t moments when I look in the mirror and wish I didn’t have so many laughter lines, but it’s OK, it’s natural.’

Melissa insisted that ageing is something that should be embraced because older people often have a wealth of experience that younger people don’t.

Melissa is currently promoting her new book How To Age Against The Machine, which she hopes will inspire confidence in women as they grow older.

She also co-hosts a podcast of the same name alongside Naima Brown.

Melissa was one of Seven’s top presenters for 25 years, hosting breakfast show Sunrise from 2002 to 2013 and current affairs program Sunday Night from 2015 to 2019.

She was dropped by the network in August 2020.

Her departure was believed to be the result of the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit Seven particularly hard.
