Melissa Doyle hung up her hat at Sunrise in 2013 after 14 years on air, and the Sunday Night host says it’s her kids who have benefited most from her new hours.
‘They understand now what mum does and where she is going!’ the 47-year-old told TV Tonight on Friday.
She added: ‘I’m working entirely different hours and I find I am so immersed and focused on what I’m doing.’

Melissa is mum to teenagers Nicholas and Natalia, and is happy to have additional time with her brood, with a shorter commute to work and less early starts.
Her former 3am wake up time meant that she was grateful for ‘things like FaceTime’ to stay in touch with her family.
The journalist also told the publication that she is enjoying working on longer investigative pieces.

‘Some stories you spend months researching before you even begin filming. But there is certainly an adrenaline rush when (you have a quick turnaround),’ Melissa told TV Tonight.
‘The thing I love most about journalism is that every story is different.’
‘I love going from not knowing anything about a person or a topic to immersing yourself in it, reading and researching everything you can find.’

Earlier this year, the Channel Seven star hit back after she was labelled ‘mumsy’ by detractors, claiming that the label has actually helped her succeed as a journalist and presenter.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the presenter said: ‘I remember at one point being called ‘mumsy’ and I thought, ‘why is that a bad thing?’ I’ve now got two teenagers.’
The blonde married husband John Doyle in 1995, with the pair passing their 20th anniversary together in recent years.
