Melissa Sagemiller: Harvey Weinstein trapped me in room

A new actress has come forward claiming that Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed and assaulted her back in 2000 while she was filming ‘Get Over It’ for Miramax.

Melissa Sagemiller said that Weinstein made sexual advances on her three times, and on one occasion trapped her in his Toronto hotel room and told her she could not leave unless she kissed him on the lips.

Those lips were ‘peeling’ at the the time from the Accutane he was taking said Sagemeiller, who described her alleged attacker as a ‘lizard’ and ‘Jabba the Hutt.’

The actress was 24 at the time and Weinstein – whose first wife Eve Chilton and three young daughters were back home in New York City – was three decades her senior.

‘I was definitely talking about it when we would go out with the cast because I was trying to warn the other girls, and I was trying to be tough about it and make a joke about it,’ said Sagemiller, who starred alongside Kirsten Dunst and Mila Kunis in the picture.

‘I will definitely say that the whole atmosphere with my agents there at the time, and with everyone in the business, including his producing partner, who was a woman, was like, ‘Don’t cause any trouble. Don’t say anything. You’re not going to be that girl because it will definitely hurt your career. This is Harvey. Harvey’s Harvey. Just don’t pay attention to him, ignore it, just move on.”

She then added: ‘I was never told, ‘Are you OK? Do you want to say anything? Do you want to report this?’ Nothing like that. It was just, ‘That’s Harvey.”

Sagemiller also said that she did not think Weinstein made any advances towards Dunst and Kunis, who were both underage at the time.

Reps for Dunst and Kunis did not respond to requests for comment as to whether or not they remember any conversations about Weinstein.

The first lewd encounter between Sagemiller and Weinstein occurred when he invited her to lunch in Toronto.

Sagemiller said that an assistant called to set up the meal, and admitted that she was given a bit of a warning about Weinstein’s affinity for his ‘leading ladies.’

Then, after a very ‘flirty’ lunch during which she was asked about what kind of men she liked, the actress was taken by Weinstein to a nearby bookstore, with the mogul having learned she was a literature major.

And when he learned that she was a fan of Fitzgerald, Sagemiller claims the he said: ‘Great, I’m going to buy you every Fitzgerald book in the bookstore, and I’m going to sign it to you, especially ‘The Last Tycoon’ because I am the last tycoon, and I’m actually about to produce the film, and it’s all about me, and you’re an English major — you’re so smart.’

Sagemiller said she soon got out of the store and was not alone with Weinstein again until she got a call to discuss the script with him – in his hotel room.

‘Immediately he had drinks. The script was on the kitchen counter. He was in his robe. He’s like, ‘Would you give me a massage?’ The whole thing,’ said Sagemiller.

‘I said, ‘Harvey, I’m here to discuss the script. I’m not going to give you a massage or any of that.’ And the banter went back and forth. He’s like, ‘I love you. You’re so fiery, you’re so smart. No one can give you s***, Sagemiller.’

She then said that she was going to have to leave since no discussion of the script was taking place.

‘I just remember him saying, ‘Ah, I have to take a shower; I just went to the gym.” said Sagemiller.

‘I don’t even know. It was so gross.’

It was then that she got trapped inside his room.

‘He said, ‘Well, you’re not going to leave until you kiss me.’ I remember that’s when it turned from ‘Oh, ha ha, I can handle this guy’ to ‘Well, OK, he’s blocking the door, sort of’ — he’d walked over and put his hand on the door,’ said Sagemiller.

‘It was just one of those things where I was like, ‘Really.’ He just wouldn’t stop. It was relentless.’

Weinstein then told Sagemiller if she acquiesced to his demands she could become a star, then naming two A-list actresses who he boasted to have bedded.

‘I said fine and kissed him on the lips,’ said Sagemiller.

‘He sort of held my head and made me kiss him, and then he’s like, ‘OK, you can go now. That’s all I wanted. Just do what I say and you can get your way.”

She said that she felt disgust when she left, but happy to have made her escape.

‘I remember sitting in that elevator. He was so disgusting. He was taking Accutane at the time, and his skin was peeling all over this face. His lips were peeling,’ said Sagemiller.

‘He was like Jabba the Hutt. He was like a lizard that was molting. It was so disgusting.’

The third and final encounter occurred after Weinstein allegedly took her bags from security and had her fly home with him to New York on a private jet rather than her commercial flight.

‘So I get on the plane, I walk up and I go, “Harvey, you motherf***er,”‘ said Sagemiller.

‘He’s just sitting there. He pats his hand on the seat next to him, and he’s like, “See, Melissa, you can’t say no to me. I always get what I want.”

‘He wanted me on this plane, and he wanted me somewhere where I couldn’t go anywhere. And he just wanted to eff with me. He just wanted to fuck with my head.’

Sagemiller got off that plane and never worked on another film for Weinstein.

‘Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances,’ said a spokesperson for Weinstein.

‘Mr. Weinstein obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual.

‘Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance.’
