Melonba, Sydney hit and run: Man is killed

A manhunt is underway for a driver after a man was killed in an alleged hit and run in Sydney’s west. 

Emergency services rushed to Abell Road in Melonba – a suburb in Blacktown about 51km north west of Sydney’s CBD – at about 11.45pm on Sunday following reports a man was injured on the side of the road. 

Paramedics worked desperately to save the man, believed to be aged in his late 70s, but he died at the scene.  

The man has not yet been formally identified. 

Officers have established a crime scene, with investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit forensically examining the area. 

Police believe the man was hit by a black sedan which was travelling eastbound on the road. 

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
