Men lie twice as often as women

  • Survey also revealed politics is the least trusted profession
  • 71 per cent of those questioned said politicians had hidden agendas
  • Nine out of ten people believe they can spot a lie easily

Men lie twice as often as women, and one in ten believe they are experts at it, according to a study.

The research found that men fib once every four days, while women lie only once every eight.

The survey also revealed politics is the least trusted profession, with 71 per cent of those questioned saying politicians had hidden agendas.

The study, carried out for the release of PlayStation 4 game Hidden Agenda, where players have to spot liars, found that nine out of ten people believe they can spot a lie easily, with a lack of eye contact being the biggest giveaway (64 per cent), followed by delayed responses (50 per cent) and fidgeting (38 per cent).

But deception expert Darren Stanton warned: ‘Many classic “tells” are unreliable. Liars actually find it very easy to look others in the eye.’
