Mental treatment ordered for man who said he cut up wife

Justin Rey, 35, has been ordered to undergo a 90-day mental treatment by a Kansas judge. The father-of-two was discovered by police to be living in a U-Haul storage space with his two children and the remains of his dead wife

A homeless father-of-two who told police he dismembered his wife in a Missouri hotel room and then slept in a Kansas storage unit with her remains and their two children is headed to a mental hospital for treatment.

A Johnson County, Kansas judge on Thursday found Justin Rey not competent to stand trial and ordered the treatment.

The 35-year-old has been ordered to undergo a 90-day stay at Larned State Hospital, Fox4KC reports.

Rey is charged in Kansas and Missouri with child endangerment. He’s also charged with abandonment of a corpse in Missouri. He isn’t charged in the killing of his wife, 32-year-old Jessica Monteiro Rey.

He had been jailed on $1million bond in Kansas on the child endangerment charges.

Investigators say Rey took photographs of himself with his wife’s body before dismembering her in a Kansas City, Missouri hotel room and taking her remains to the U-Haul storage unit in Lenexa, Kansas.

He was living with their two children: a toddler and the newborn, inside the storage unit when they were found by police, authorities say.
