12 years after exploring the origins of Facebook and founder Mark Zuckerberg, author Ben Mezrich is now exploring the GameStop/Wall Street Bets saga, which will be turned into a movie.
MGM picked up the rights to a new book proposal by Mezrich entitled The Antisocial Network, which will follow the Redditors at Wall Street Bets who took on the hedge funds trying to short sell GameStop, via Deadline.
Mezrich’s 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires was adapted into the 2010 movie The Social Network, with this new project reuniting Mezrich with Michael De Luca, who produced The Social Network and is now the chairman of MGM.

There is no indication where Mezrich’s book will begin and end, though the book proposal will go out to publishers in an auction set for February.
Mezrich certainly moved fast on one of the biggest stories of the year, which is barely a week old.
Sources say that Mezrich and his reps put his proposal on the market by the end of last week, with MGM picking up the rights on Friday night.

The group of ‘retail investors’ from a Reddit thread known as Wall Street Bets took the stock market by storm, as they asked their members to try and stop at least two hedge funds who were short-selling video game retailer GameStop.
The Wall Street Bets Redditors started buying up stock en masse, sending the stock value soaring, as the company’s value increased 1,700% since December, with the company’s market value increasing by a whopping $10 billion.
They also took aim at other ‘obsolete’ companies like cell phone manufacturer Nokia and AMC Theaters movie chain.

This move resulted in the trading app RobinHood putting restrictions on certain stocks, leading to more controversy.
Aaron Ryder will produce the film through his Ryder Picture Company, which has a first-look deal at MGM.
There will also be another unique connection to The Social Network as well, with Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss producing through their Winklevoss Pictures production company.

Mezrich has written over 20 books with over six million copies sold, and he is the only non-fiction author to have two movie adaptations open atop the box office.
He wrote Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions, which spent 63 weeks on the New York times best sellers list and was adapted into the 2008 movie 21.

The Midnight Ride was originally a serialized set of articles published by the Boston Globe, with Amblin Pictures obtaining the movie rights.
