Miami Dolphins hand out huge new NFL-record $24million contract to star cornerback Jalen Ramsey ahead of season

The Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey have agreed on a three-year deal worth over $72million that will make him the highest paid CB in NFL history once again.

That deal will see Ramsey earn an average annual salary of $24.1m, beating out Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II as the best paid corner in the league.

Ramsey is guaranteed to earn $55.3million beginning this season, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter added that the Dolphins, ‘wanted to reward Ramsey, and have been discussing an extension for several weeks’.

Surtain just signed his contract making him (briefly) the highest paid corner in the NFL two days ago.

Ramsey has been one of the best cornerbacks in the league ever since he was taken with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

He’s a three-time first-team All-Pro selection, earning the honor in 2017 with the team that drafted him – the Jacksonville Jaguars – and twice with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020 and 2021.

With the Rams, Ramsey won Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Across his seven years in the league, Ramsey has been named to the Pro Bowl each season.

His 22 interceptions are tied for the 16th most among all active players and is the fifth most among players drafted in 2016 or later.

Across 118 regular season games, Ramsey has totaled 474 combined tackles, 95 passes defended, and two sacks.
